Re ection of Wavefronts by Randomly Layered
We consider reeection of a pulse in a random medium with a strong reeector. We show that the wavefront of the reeected wave observed in the frame moving with the random propagation speed stabilizes to the deterministic waveform. The problem is studied using invariant imbedding. The results of numerical experiments illustrating the theory are presented.
متن کاملBounded influence magnetotelluric response function estimation
S U M M A R Y Robust magnetotelluric response function estimators are now in standard use in electromagnetic induction research. Properly devised and applied, these have the ability to reduce the influence of unusual data (outliers) in the response (electric field) variables, but are often not sensitive to exceptional predictor (magnetic field) data, which are termed leverage points. A bounded ...
متن کاملA Comparison of Techniques for Magnetotelluric Response Function Estimation
Spectral analysis of the time-varying horizontal magnetic and electric field components yields the magnetotelluric (MT) impedance tensor. This frequency dependent 2x2 complex tensor can be examined for details which axe diagnostic of the electrical conductivity distribution in the Eaxth within the relevant (frequency dependent) inductive scale length of the surface observation point. As such, p...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Response of a Large Circular Loop Source on a Layered Earth: A New Computation Method
Integral expressions of electromagnetic (EM) field components due to a large circular loop source carrying an alternating (ac) current and placed on or above the surface of a layered earth model are transformed to such suitable forms that facilitate numerical computation of field response in quasi-static as well as non-quasi-static regions. The improper integrals occurring in expressions of EM ...
متن کاملWave Propagation in Randomly Layered Media
An acoustical pulse propagating in a randomly layered slab and scattered by the random inhomogeneities generates a reeected signal and a transmitted pulse followed by its coda. In the regime of separation of scales (correlation length of the random inhomogeneities much smaller than typical wavelengths contained in the pulse much smaller than the large scale of the medium comparable to the size ...
